Privacy Policy
Effective October 12, 2026
Expand only works if you can be honest inside it. This policy explains exactly what happens to what you write, in the same plain language the app uses.
What we collect
- Account information: your email address (or Apple Sign-In identifier) and an internal account ID, used to sign you in and keep your data yours. If you use Expand without an account, we hold only the internal ID.
- Your content: the beliefs, conversations, evidence, experiments, check-in answers, journals, and profile facts you create in the app.
- Notifications: a device push token, if you allow notifications, used only to deliver your check-ins and reminders.
- Minimal usage events: small internal counters (for example, that a milestone was celebrated) used to make the app work. No third-party analytics, no advertising identifiers, no tracking across other apps or websites.
Where it lives
Your data is stored with Supabase (our database provider), encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256). Every record is locked to your account with row-level security. The app can only ever read yours.
AI processing
To generate the app's replies, your relevant content (your messages, and the belief work it refers to) is sent to Anthropic, our AI provider, and processed under their commercial API terms. It is used only to generate your reply, not to train AI models, and is not shared with anyone else.
Nobody reads your conversations
No one on the Expand team opens your chats, journals, evidence, or beliefs. Not to improve the app, not to debug it, not out of curiosity. The app is built and tested on our own accounts and on synthetic data, and the only numbers we look at are aggregate counts, like how many experiments were run this week. The one exception is you: if you email us about a problem with your account and ask us to look, we'll look at what you point us to, and nothing else.
What we never do
- No reading your conversations, journals, or beliefs, for any purpose unless explicitly requested by the user for app support.
- No selling or renting your data. Ever.
- No ads, no ad networks, and no third-party analytics or trackers in the app.
- No use of your content for AI training.
This website
This website (expandyourbeliefs.com, not the app) uses the Meta Pixel, a tool from Meta that helps us measure how well our Facebook and Instagram ads work. When you visit, Meta may receive the pages you view, whether you tap through to the App Store, your IP address, and browser details, and it may set cookies. Meta may connect this to a Facebook or Instagram account you have and uses it under its own privacy policy.
The pixel lives only on these web pages. Nothing you write in the app is ever shared with Meta. You can limit how Meta uses this for ads in your Facebook ad preferences or opt out through aboutads.info or youronlinechoices.eu, or block it with your browser's tracking protection.
Retention and deletion
Your data is kept for as long as you keep your account, so the app can hold your history for you. You can export everything as a PDF at any time (Settings, then Share profile), and you can permanently delete your account and every trace of your data at any time (Settings, then Delete account & all data). Deletion is immediate and irreversible. Nothing is retained.
Guest accounts that never attach an email or Apple ID and go unused for 90 days may be deleted automatically, along with everything in them.
Not therapy
Expand is a personal-growth and self-reflection tool. It is not therapy or medical care and does not treat, diagnose, or heal anything. If you're in crisis, the app surfaces support resources, including the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (US) and findahelpline.com.
Children
Expand is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll say so in the app before the change applies to you.
